Not Good.
« on: 26 October 2013, 18:33:00 »

Where do I start >:( Thermo stat on a v6 a complete pain, putting it mildly. Job a bit of disaster really, 1 of the sandwich plate bolts would not tighten, feels like its stripped >:(. B Bolt well  that engine bracket dropped out, could not get it back in and can see it acts as spacer for that dam bolt, in the end  managed to get the poxy bolt in but only tightened finger tight. Enough damage for one day :-X It started no problem, but I wont be driving it

Not sure what you mean by sandwich plate in regard to do a thermostat  :-\ If the 'stat retaing bolt has stripped, is that because you used a bolt that was too long for a thinner 'stat housing & tried to tighten it down .... ie the bolt bottomed out on the hole? If it is stripped, you need a time(thread)-sert/helicoil fitting so that you can fully tighten the 'stat housing.

Im still in process of calming down mate. Its the plastic divider plate between oil cooler and intake manifold. Its held with 12 star bolts + I had a new Teng 3/8 Torque wrench, which was tested on a wheel bolt 20 times as per instructions and this was nt the first bolt tightened. All the rest no problem. Took plate off again put bolt in seems to tighten nicely without plate, plate on 11 bolts ok No 12 does nt want to know. Im baffled. New Thermostat in no problem :y

As it tightens ok without plate would a longer bolt solve your problem I am assuming that the bolt goes in further than the plate depth.

Sounds like the first part of the thread is stripped then  :-\
Options are thread-sert/helicoil or you might get away with a slightly longer bolt to reach that little bit further down the thread ..... but you'll have to be very careful that you don't strip that too.  :-\

In terms of the inlet, 11 bolts.. should :-\... hold it tight enough for me not to worry too much.I've never seen the b bolt so can't offer much on that.

More of a problem if it's one of the end bolts I guess :-\

But still have issue with engine lift bracket I could nt get it back Al, If I drive it Im certain the new transfer pipe will vibrate lose and start leaking. Cant you just despense with bracket, use the B bolt bush and shorter bolt ???

Yes, of course you can.  The lifting bracket is not necessary.
