Have too big a public sector and all they can do is dream up new ways to tax us and create work for themselves in the process. It's a never ending spiral.

This carbon trading business is bonkers anyway. You either use energy or you don't yet you can now buy "green" electricity, etc. etc. Who are they trying to kid? It's the same stuff - they just charge you more because they've bought some "carbon credits". Do I look stupid? ::)

Most of my flying is on business. Will that come out of my personal allowance? Will I end up driving a Lupo because I go on a business trip every month or so? If not, it's going to be pretty easy to blag all your holidays on your business and burn as much as you like.

If the government really had the desire to change things, rather than find new ways of taxing us for not having the option of changing, they'd be investing in some technologies that will secure our future, or at least giving firm backing and consistent policies that will allow businesses to invest, instead of increasingly committing us to being at the mercy of fossil fuels from abroad.

Every house has a roof that could be fitted with solar panels. Most houses have gardens that could take a rainwater tank. OK they won't solve the green problem but surely every little helps. Let the government subsidize (100%) these if they are serious about energy (carbon)savings.

Or a wind electric mill in every village per say 1000 houses. There is a service station in Northern france with one that powers the whole village and motorway services. wait a minute NIMBY !!!

I was thinking along those lines a few weeks ago when they were on about conserving energy and turning things off from being on standy.

I thought at the time of what the saving might be if the turned Las Vegas off.   ;D ;D

Well, that's the bottom line. >:(

All this bu115h1t just makes uss less competitive relative to China, India, etc. Ergo, more manufacturing jobs are lost to them, they therefore pollute more, our products are shipped half way round the world instead of locally sourced (how many g/km from a container ship, anyone?).

We only generate 2% of the world's pollutants, so we can stop this "save the planet" crusade right now as far as I'm concerned. Anyone can see it's a hiding to nothing.

Funnily enough -- it was acouple of weeks ago I had the same conversation with the missus, specifically mentioning Las Vegas (must have been something on TV at the time)

I have just said the same sort of thing on another thread, watever we do will make no difference. In my opinion all this green stuff is just another excuse to reaise more money through taxes. :(

Youve hit the nail directly on the head! if we stop producing any carbon emissions whatsoever, ie no cars. cows, planes, trucks, trains, electricity etc, we would save a wopping 2% of what is created on the planet!

The polititions in this country need have to find a new bandwagon to jump on imo! they could try the people who have been on job"seekers" for the past 10 years  >:(
