Did a few sparky jobs for him during his first stint at Hull FC late 90's iirc.
Walked through his front door for the first time to be faced by wall to wall rugby shirts and other stuff.
First thing he asked me was .............. black and white (Hull Fc) or red and white (Hull KR).
I turned round and said black and amber (as you do) and followed it up with a few piss taking comments about rugby league which had the bloke in stitches
The thing is, I didn't have a oppsing clue who he was which made him laugh
Never failed to shake my hand when I walked in and walked out.
A proper bloke in my opinion.
A mans man who I've never heard a bad word said about him from anybody.
Decent bloke though and through who did a amazing job of raising money and awareness for his cancer charity which he set up when he was diagnosed.
The quacks gave him 6 months, he fought on for 7 years before it beat him
In 2010, he was awarded the MBE for services to both rugby and charity.
Without this bit turning into a bitching session, if I had my way it would have been a knighthood
Don't normally do this sort of posts but in this case .................. RIP Steve, a true legend of a man.
Note ............ If you folks don't know who he is, take 10 minutes of your time to do a bit of goggleing.
Purely inspirational who is well up there with hero's of mine like Jane Tomlinson imho
