When an iPhone gets wet, not a lot you can do. What type of water was it? Usually it's toilet water  :-X

I'd say take the battery out to avoid corrosion, but it's an iPhone. ::)

That would never happen to my son. Pupils aren't allowed phones in school down here.

Immerse it in rice for a few days to draw out the water - that is a serious contribution btw. Leave in airing cupboard.

For what it's worth, I was told (on here, by Guffers, IIRC) to keep Miss Nickbat's soaked iPod in a sealed container of rice.

After a week or so, it reincarnated!  :y

I am not sure they are allowed phones in school up here, that's a different argument......... :P ;) ;)  she has to learn to take responsibility for her actions and ignoring the advice of her parents........which will by my fault......... :( :(

Rice readily absorbs moisture, from any source, especially atmospheric moisture ...  so placing the item in a SEALED container is far more likely to draw the moisture out of the item than an unsealed container, where the rice will also be exposed to atmospheric moisture.

Make sure the item is surrounded by rice (immersed is a good term) , and give it a GENTLE shake daily just to move it around a bit.

has to be in a seald container of rice, that way the moisture in the phone is not competing with the moisture in the air. (this time of year the natural moisture air content can be up to 90%)

Must be left for a few days, just overnight will not work and you risk bricking the phone if you try it before then.

Best tell her to go and get a  part time job,so she can afford a new phone, that way might learn the price and worth of things :)
