As I said in the other thread ...Great idea, but it's been put out numerous times before .. but TB is just simply against it and will not change his mind. He has his reasons which we must respect, even though we might disagree with them.

Is there an actual need to replace the hardware? Or is it a setup issue?  :-\

I think the bigger question here, is if TB would accept funds. Which I very much doubt, I'd gladly put in money for new OOF kit, the amount of money this forum has saved me, I'd easily put in way more than the highest amount on the poll shows.

The only way this could be done, is if no recognition was given, nor could anyone "crow" that they've donated to up keep of the server and therefore a "better" member.

I fully agree with that, should be annonymous and ammounts paid into a paypal acc,I voted a tenner but would be prepared to pay more as I like it here :y
Exactly the intention :y hence the modest amounts suggested...

At this stage it is simply something to give an indication, the practical application can be dealt with in due course :y

I will collect the money  :y

 ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D and your PayPal account is ???

Why should TB fund it ??? I think he does enough without being out of pocket as well :y

So the question is HOW MUCH ??? and each member contributes  the amount required or leave the forum. SIMPLES or advertising and the profits go to the contributors :y

I agree with a lot of what you said, but not everyone may be able to afford the amount required. Making them leave the forum is rather harsh, although this is one of the best forums around......and is free!
No-one should be out of pocket, but at the same time forcing someone to leave if they are unable to contribute said amount is strong.  :-\

IMHO  :)

I agree that it would be nice to give something back, but as said, on a voluntary and private basis.
No amount of money could buy the service, advice, banter and camaraderie found on this forum, but we wouldn't want to make this a divisive issue  :y

Thread locked at OP's request.

This subject has been debated many times and the admin team are well aware of the feelings of the membership with respect to paying for the service that OOF provides. I think it's a tribute to us (and I include all members in that) that we have built a quality resource for which members have offered to pay.

Having said that, one of the founding principles of the forum is to provide a service free of charge to all and unless that ever changes the discussion is purely hypothetical.

Yes, we have some gremlins in the works at the moment. I don't think that's necessarily an indication that there is a need for expenditure. We all know that TheBoy knows his onions and will resolve it quickly.  :y
