What I don't understand is that a divorce involves two parties, so why isn't the rest of the UK getting a vote to decide whether we want to keep them as part of the UK. I know how I would vote.  ::) ::)

Im actually not sure which way I would vote. More than likely to retain the union as Im a Unionist at heart, but I would want the playing field made much more level, after Mc Ruins time in number 11 and then number 10,made the whole thing very unfair.

I find a strange admiration for those countries stubborn enough to want out. The sort of character and strength that we should want to keep. Not keep, that's the wrong word and no mistake ;D but you know what I mean. :)

This has an air of pointlessness about it though, no?

So if Scotland becomes independent in 2016, what are the rest of us going to call ourselves?  ???  :-\

The United Kingdom refers to the union of the Kingdoms of England and Scotland, so that's out.  ::)  Unless we promote Wales from a Principality to a Kingdom, and then Northern Ireland could become a Principality to give Prince Harry something to do.  :-\

Great Britain is the geographical name for the island of England, Scotland and Wales so that's no good either.  :(

England, Wales and Northern Ireland is a bit of a mouthful really, but how about some anagrams?

Like:- N.I.E.W., W.E.N.I., E.W.N.I. (pronounced uni), N.I.W.E., or E.N.I.W.

I also think Bastardsland has a certain ring to it...  ;D

Any ideas?  ???  and lets not turn this into an independence debate, just a bit of fun!  :)

Incorrect. The full title of the  U.K. is The united kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Presumably the title will change to The united Kingdom of England Wales and Northern Ireland.
Scotland aren't really voting on independence as such. They are voting to leave the U.K. (or not), but the SNP are adamant they will remain in the EU,so they couldn't  really call themselves independent. Seems pointless to me.

Not really Albs, as the United Kingdom bit refers to the union of the Scottish and English crowns, which then created Great Britain.

If Scotland leaves the union it can't be a United Kingdom as there will only be one kingdom which is England. Wales is a Principality and Northern Ireland is a Province (I'm sure you'll put me right if I'm wrong there), that's why I think we can't call ourselves The United Kingdom of England, Wales and Northern Ireland.  ;)

As an aside, I often wonder if unionists think the union wants unionists? If we could find a word other than British and union to bring the isles together, I'd find that more agreeable as I'm sure they might.

Nobody want to lose their identity under a British flag, or see another identity lost or more distant. ...on average, I hasten to add. :-\

Howzaboot The Peoples Republic of Anglia, Incorporating Cymru and Northern Ireland :-\

Mind you, what would happen if we relinquished Northern Ireland back to the Irish whilst we're at it :-\

I really don't think that the Scots can survive or thrive without the gentle benevolent discipline that Mother England provides. :) :-* :-*
