Alarm sounds if set when car hot
« on: 30 November 2013, 21:43:11 »

An unexpected side effect of my new (genuine) thermostat today is that now the car actually warms up if I set the alarm after a run it starts sounding after about 20 minutes. Leave it unlocked until its cool and it sets and stays silent.

It is the alarm horns not the power sounder sounding.

Any thoughts?

What Andy said ... if that doesn't work try pressing the "running man" button and see if that works. That turns off the cabin  motion detector... it could be the heat has woken up a bug (I had major problems with a resident moth who only flew at night for a while), or the sensor is supersensitive and is detecting the "cooling" of the cabin as a movement and activating ... bit of a long shot but worth a try before taking too much apart ??

Thank you both, I will give those 2 a go tomorrow.

Is the bonnet sensor a known failure point?

Steve

the sensor isn't (it's a switch that's eiter open or closed), but the bracket that it's fastened to gets bent when you're working on the car. When the bonnet shuts, it opens the switch, alarm then knows the bonnet is shut, as things heat up (often under a hot summer sun) the large area bonnet then flexes, the switch closes & the alarm thinks the bonnet has opened.  :y
It may simply need bending upright again, but disconnecting the switch will easily kid the alarm into thinking the bonnet is shut ....... you can go from there if need be  ;)

Update time then, bonnet switch unplugged and drive to work. All seems ok, pop out at lunchtime and 20 minutes after getting back phone rings - your car alarm is going off. Drive home, bonnet switch still disconnected so park up and press the 'running man' also only to find 20 minutes later off its going again. It always fine if I leave the car for couple of hours after using it before setting the alarm, but that does mean its being left open a lot!

Is there anyway to lock the car without setting the alarm?

Does the alarm have codes to tell you what triggers it?

Anymore common faults?

Many thanks

Ensure keys are in your hand, shut all doors except rear o/side. Depress driver`s lockpin then shut rear door

Shut all doors.
Open rear door, lean in and press down locking button on drivers door (all buttons pop down)
Shut rear door.

Car now locked without any alarm being set.

Should be able to lock the car by just pushing the Drivers Lock Button down through the rear Door without setting the alarm on from memory, then come back later to Dead Lock and Alarm set if needed.

Sounds like the system needs a chat with a Tech II to see whats going on for a long term fix.

Chris.  ;)

There is a small chance that the car battery could cause this,if the voltage drops too quickly after a switch off it could trigger the alarm.

Well its nice and cold now and alarm has been set for couple of hours without issue.

I really struggle to see how the heat can effect it, but will undertake further investigation tomorrow!

Thank you for all the help so far.
