I like the idea, if I went I would take the bike. However I doubt I can make it for reasons I cannot say yet. If this had been this year, then be much more doable.

 from dover you have the cheapest which is my ferries (use to be sea France) food is vile, facilities are disgusting. Then there dfds never had to use them,so cant comment. Would always use p+o the two new super ferries, very nice, and you will get a irmescher on them,as if cant get on car deck they put you on freight deck..

also last question in the poll is null n void. You only need proof of id. Eg plastic drivers licence or a drivers card(tacho), or birth certificate.

I was under the impression that, as we are not part of the Schengen agreement, a passport would be necessary.
