Key fob led
« on: 08 December 2013, 23:11:43 »

What's is its purpose..?

Replaced both batteries in both fobs. Neither where flashing on pressing prior to, now new batteries fitted one is flashing after new batteries fitted but not the other.

Either one battery is low or the other has a failed led. Or do the newer fobs not get an led at all. (I think the non flashing fob is a replacement Delphi one.

Some fobs don't have the LED although all the newer Megamos ones do, IIRC.

Some fob cases don't have the hole for the LED, so it's there but you can't see it.

I believe it flashes rapidly when the battery is low or once per button press if it's OK but can't be 100% sure.

Dont really understand the question, the LED is a indication of a working Fob and the battery is good'ish  ;)

Ok, so it confirms a signal sent to the car?

I'm unclear as I seem to remember a suggestion that the led only flashed on pressing once the battery was low. Although I found that odd at the time. Plus one fob shows no red flash at all with a new battery.
Kev answers one, your good self answered the other.

So to confirm, if the led is present in the fob, flashes on pressing to confirm a signal sent to the car. No flash, the fob ain't working, most likely due to flat battery. (Or the fob has no led at all ;D )

From memory, and I may be wrong here Chris, if you press and hold down the Unlock button, it will only Flash Once (so one assumes it only sends the unlock signal once), however if you Press and Hold Down the Lock button, it will continue to flash and send the more than one lock button signal to the car, if that makes sense.

All the above relies on the fob actually being fully working. Most, now, have a few issues, mostly due to dying switches, which causes not only the fob rubbers to fail, but pcb problems, and people press so friggin' hard.

If it was a more responsive click form the buttons that might help. The only sign anything happens is if the car unlocks.

Or put another way, press with increasing pressure until the car unlocks. If it never unlocks then it will, naturally, get pressed until it can't be pressed any harder until its eventually decided its oppsed!

Plus the key ring knackers the nearest edge of the rubber pad.

Apart from the Fob itself going tits up, theres four common issues with them, the button switch itself collapses, the button solder pins become intermittent or break, one of the battery pins goes intermittent or breaks and becomes more noticeable when one of the buttons is pressed putting stress on the PCB and lastly the Rubber Key Pads that push the buttons down become worn or holed, the later can sometimes be temporarily fixed by carefully placing some cardboard cut out around the buttons. Might buy you a few more months before replacement is required.  ;)
