I know that's politically slanted, but I have read on other sites that it's on the cards.

Government subsidy related. GM want the Australian government to buy jobs.

The VF was launched with a 3year life span, so not a great surprise :-\

What is interesting is that the unions there seem to be heavily in favour of wage cuts to preserve jobs... A far cry from the retarded dickheads here...

Interesting comment @ the end of this .......

"Above all, workers in Australia should turn to their fellow workers around the world with an appeal for a common political struggle against the onslaught of the transnational corporations and the governments and unions that serve them."

er, what planet are these people on? GM, Ford etc don't care about what happens in Oz and have subsidised them for years. Oz is far too small to have a viable auto manufacturing industry - IMHO of course.  :-X

Yes, 15 years ago when I lived there the unions practically ran the place and were like a throwback to the 1970's here! Things like closed shops for example were common!!  :o

I should think that China's transformation in the ensuing years, together with the rapid increase in the cost of living there, has meant that even union dinosaurs could see the writing on the wall for Australian manufacturing!  :-\

They'll have to stick to what they're good at..... Digging!!!!  ;D

Looks like the Aussies will be driving Daewoos' as well soon, as GM will plug the gap with imports from Korea after they've shut Holden down!  :-\

Yep. Bad news for Australia. But good news for all Daewoo owners, who are in the early throes of world domination. ;D
