carbuyingservice again
« on: 09 December 2013, 19:27:31 »

Bought the wife's megane coupe from the car people in September 2010. List price was around £18K. It was 6 months old and had covered 3000 miles. We paid £11K for it.
3 years 2 months and 30,000 miles later, the car buying service will give us £5430.
So....50% down in three years.
Like I said, let someone else take the first hit and you can't really go wrong.

2010 megan coupe on ebay.
181 of them, one listed at 5290 - rest are 6000 to 14000, most on the high side of that figure.
course, that means that esta's point is valid - even less depreciation  ::)

C'mon Chris. Private sellers attract loads of tyre kickers who try to knock you down. The hassle just isn't worth it. This company tell you what they'll give you and, if you agree, it's in the bank next day. No paying for ads, no fending off dickheads and African con men. Thats worth a few hundred quid in itself.

A very, very reasonable amount. I think, if you canvass opinion, you'll be in the minority again. That's not counting Al  ;D

mmmm well I paid £6500 (- £1500 trade in) for the Omega 6 years ago then £2200 for the LPG conversion so the car "owes" me £7200 .. I reckon with the Irmscher kit/LPG kit/tow bar etc I could reasonably get £1500, maybe a tad more .. but at £1500 the car has "lost" £5700 over 6 years ....  but I've saved £4100 in fuel - after deducting the conversion costs... so the car has "cost" me £1600 over 6 years .... I call that cheap motoring .. :)

Hardly a typical experience though, Nige.

Thing is when all is said and done, people expect to lose money on cars. They are a consumable, buy it, use it, throw it away.

bought my mig for £500
Spent about 1500 on it in 4 years.
Scrapped and stripped for parts - bout £600 back
so cost me 350 a year for four years of  :D

or my lexus - cost me 700 quid, 100 back on tax refund when it went on disabled tax.
had it 3 months, and could sell it now for what I paid + then some now I've sorted out a couple of niggles (30 mins work, no parts).
so cost = zero, so far.
