Not an Omega engine but a Corsa 1.4. 1996.
Went to view a Corsa today and everything looked ok until I started the engine, it didn't sound too healthy, it's done 69000.
Heavy knocking from the engine and mayo on the oil filler cap.
Also slight white puffs of smoke from the exhaust, not too bad though, no oil in the water expansion tank.
Suspect big problems so walked away.
Does it sound too bad to even consider this or maybe too expensive to have the engine done if I got it at the right price, it's a shame really as it's just gone through an MOT and all good condition.
I didn't even take it on a test drive as it worried me.

Not worth the hassle -- unless you have a spare engine sitting at home -- and the inclination to swap !

You did the right thing Mick!  Always walk away when those indicators of a possible / definate problem arise.  

There are plenty of other Corsa's on the market to pick from!

Anyway, just as I thought the Corsa was good but the engine no chance!...Turning my thoughts to a Micra now, seen that but it's got no MOT should be interesting, but it's going for peanuts.

As TB said... there is no short supply of Corsas, so why not just walk away and get another one that you know is good?

Incidentally, the most worrying bit would be the engine knocking, especially if it is coming from the bottom part (and internal to the engine obviously). If you got the car for next to nothing and are good with swapping engines, then maybe, but if you just want a car to drive around, why not get a good one to start with....

The mayo in the filler cap can mean potential head gasket. More often though it is the result of short cold journeys where the oil temperature doesn't get high enough to expel water or condensation from it. Shouldn't be noisy though, those engines are quiet when in good nick.
