A few years back, we started to put a 472 Cad into a Monte Carlo for some cheap fun at the track. I paid £300 for the car; legal, drivable but with a bad leak from the trans. The complete engine and gearbox were another £250, plus the Rover engine and box that we removed. An afternoons work saw it mounted in the car, and we were well into the plumbing when we lost the storage space and had to sell it.
It's a proper big-block engine so ignore the 190hp rating, and look at the torque figure. That's 380lbft at 2000rpm! An early high-compression 500 makes over 500lbft as standard. And as long as you keep the revs down(which isn't difficult as valve float sets in at 4000rpm), the thing is unbreakable. It's readily tunable too; cam, inlet and some valve train work make equally impressive power increases
