I have a few domain names, I would like to set up some email addresses on one of them to use as ISP less email addresses.

I am with 123-reg and can have an inbox for 87p a month each, I do have a OOF one but not sure what to do.

I want to use martin@myowndomain and sue@myowndomain ect ect.

I could use 123 regs but not sure if I can do anything elsewhere.

POP3 definate, webmail nice, was thinking of 5 boxes, all to same domain, differing users, but I was thinking of renting to other people who would like the domain but not sure.

Main thing would be able to send and receive as that name@domain.

I have bought buying a couple of domains suitable for me.

I am completely fed up of sue shouting when she is watching TV getting me to do the competition and typing in her long full name btinternet.com address, and I am planning to change ISP later this year using webwise as a contract breaker.

I have my rather long oof email account as well!

So you are after a package that allows a significant of email addresses?  What about webhosting - in which case, what technologies?

Do you need to delegate control to your users as well?

I haven't looked too much into this, but what are rough costs for hosting, say 10 boxes? And where would I host them.

This may seem like I don't know much about setting up internet stuff but to be honest I never do that sort of thing at work, and have never thought about it until very recently.

But I know enough to know I need to ask

You could always set up your own mail server. It's a good way to learn how "internet stuff" works.

Get something with low power consumption (old laptop / Mini-ITX machine) and the leccy bill will probably be about the same cost as hosting it somewhere else.

I'm with Godaddy where my domain is hosted earlier in the year
I renewed my e-mail package 100 e-mail addresses [ 2gb]
$29.00, think it was for two years. Pop3 & Webmail.

Who hosts your domainnames Martin?

You may find they will do it all for you......

I have a couple of domainnames and I use a company called Virtual Names for hosting them........they're pretty cheap.....I think £8/2years for domainname registration and then I have mail forwarding for £5/year.

They have a control panel you can log into a setup basically anything you want.....

ie you could have say

everyone@yourdomainname.com being forwarded to your isp's mailbox (catch all and redirect)

or

Martin@yourdomainname.com -> your isp's mailbox
Sue@yourdomainname.com -> your isp's mailbox

Then with your mail client you could filter for Martin or Sue and redirect to different mail folders.

You can also set different names (before the @ ) to be sent to different isp's mailboxes.

You may find who you use to host the domainnames has a similar setup  :-/

Just noticed your with 123-reg.com

I had a quick look.......seems like they do mail forwarding and have a control panel.......so I think i would investigate that  

PS forgot to mention you only to set your mail client to show your emails being sent as ie Martin@yourdomainname.com.......so thats what the recipient see's.........when really the email has been sent thro your isp

Email forwarding is not too brilliant - might get a 123 mail box unless Jaime can offer me something usefull

I have a 123-reg a/c as well as a 1&1 a/c - both offer maill forwarding with full config via control panels.
I have my own domain(s) and it is set up that anyone@domainname.co.uk is forwarde to me.

You need to decide what you want from your domains before looking at best price/performance options.

To give you some idea, my paid for hosting offers me unlimited hosting and unlimited email for an unlimited number of users, as long as I don't use more than 8Tb (yes, Tb) bandwidth and 500Gb disk space.  That will probably be overkill for your needs.

If you are only providing to your household, your own mail server as suggested earlier may be an option.  Ideally you want a static IP though.  And you have to keep your patching up to date big time.

Mail forwarding to you ISP account is normally free. If your ISP allows it, set your reply address to your domain.

Googlemail can now deal with your own domain names now, but I guess from your earlier post that privacy is a big issue for you, and Google are scum of the earth for that.


Think about what you need.  If you want to try things, I'm sure we can accomodate some things on a trial.

Downside paid for hosting, as you can see at the moment, it goes tits-up sometimes
