3.0 ltr cam upgrades
« on: 04 June 2008, 10:13:16 »

Spent most of yesterday removing cam covers /cam belt/tensioners and now the removal of the standard 2.5 cam shafts.
Weather permitting I am going to put the car back together today with my recently bought 3.0 cam shafts and am quite excited about the improvement in performance.I have seen that sveral members have done this upgrade and was wondering on how much better I can expect the performance to be or will it not be noticeable .The new camshafts will be still be fitted but just curious on others opinions .

Vauxhall did this (well MSD and Swindon) for the Vectra ST200 and it increased BHP from 167 to 197bhp (200PS hence why it was called ST 200) without any other engine mods (to be technically correct they only changed one set of cams IIRC the exhaust ones)

So providing your engine is tickety boo you should expect 20bhp minimum, so i think you would notice it

ST200 was also a unregisted (ie not trade marked) model name for the MSD tweaked Vectra GSi, often course confussion :)

Well.its all put back together and engine runs fine.Have replaced belt/tensioners with a BIG thanks to the dvd, which was invaluable.Have fitted new camcover gaskets and rinsed all breathers again.Just about to go for a run and see if the extra money on those camshafts was worth it.Will post my results later today or in morning.Wish me luck.
