RainX
« on: 13 January 2014, 20:05:43 »

NickW mentioned this recently, and a recent visit to Halfords showed a basket full of the stuff by the checkout. My screen was insufferably smeary, from the last car wash wax cycle no doubt, so I caved and picked up a bottle.

Cleaned the screen thoroughly, rainXed as the rather vague instructions, checked with the wash wipe and saw no great difference. Did I polish the rain ex off too much I wondered...?

But over the last 5 days the benefits seem marked, rain in the way home, very clear screen with loads of road spray, barely needed the wipers on. In fact I turned them off, just to see. Only hindrance was glare from above, from the motorway street lights.

Wipers back on, clear as a bell. And is it me, or were the wipers quiter too...? :-\

I also used it on the front side windows. Not such a good idea, as copious beading and low sun meant a cyclist was reduced to a distant shadow. I knew something was there, but had no idea what. He was actually right next to the car. :o but no issue.

Seems worthwhile in the front screen, not convinced on any other windows.

Oh, keeps the frost to a minimum as well. :y

Much as I'd like to stay and play, I've got to go and watch a programme about exploding sofas from China.

RainX Plus is what you really need, smaller bottle but more concentrated apparently giving a considerable saving over a 3 month period.  ;)
