I was driving a bus and a fire engine decided to pick a fight with me, via the central reserve. Big bang.

The worst one for me was being run over (literally) by a car coming from the opposite direction after being knocked off my bike by someone who decided to make a right turn just as I was overtaking them.

Cost me 3 weeks in intensive care, followed by another 8 weeks on a normal ward.

The one that shook me up the most was a head-on. Although the reason that it affected me was not the accident itself, but something far, far more frightening.

I guess the Rover incident was pretty extreme as well, when you think about it - losing an argument with 3 cars and a central reservation does bring a certain reality to how fragile a bit of tin is.

I took a tumble on my bike a few years ago while turning right on a roundabout.  :(  Stupid bint coming the other way didn't give way and I hit her.  :o  Luckily I saw that she wasn't going to stop so had slowed right down by the time I'd hit her, so it wasn't too dramatic.  ::)

Unlike the fight I had with her insurance company after!  >:(

As a driver, either spinning my Granada Cosworth into a fence on a dual carriageway... hit both ends within ten feet, making the car two feet shorter and a foot wider ::)

Or ripping the front and underside off my first Vectra C when I buried it into Beare Green roundabout via the central resevation, hit a solitary post hard enough to crack the sump :-[ it was either that or roll it :-X

The most frightening ones have been totally out of the blue... when a third car hit a car that was passing me whilst stationary causing it to spin into the back of the Omega, punching it up the road... or when some numpty decided that it would be a good idea to drive an artic behind a reversing truck at well over 20mph in a truck stop. That was a horrible experience as everything in the cab went flying as it spun round. Only lasted a couple of seconds if that, but seemed like minutes, and all I could think was WTF :o only found out what had happened once I got out :-\

As a passenger, worst was probably when Dad decided to bury his '76 P reg Renault 5 into the back of a stationary Ford Cortina estate at speed on the dual carriageway... the Renault actually took it quite well as Dad managed to hit it square on. Probably helped that the Cortina folded up like a tissue... it bent far enough for the dashboard to collapse :o

Luckily I've walked away from every single one with minor bumps and bruises.

a few years ago, was driving over a large common, up in Beverley ( the Westwood), and was dazzeled by an oncoming landrover, and did not see a group of cows in the road, and hit one at 40mph, it went over the roof and crushed the bonnet of my first car, a red Austin Montego, I saw the car the following day, and what a mess, the cow had to be put down tho :( The land has quite a few cows roaming "free", and quite a few have been killed over the years, and as its common land, there is no comeback on the drivers somehow

Falling asleep on the M5, early 82.
Woke up when half on the hard shoulder and half on the grass, milliseconds later the car hit the (sloping) start of the Armco and took off, things got bit hazy then but there was an almighty bang.....then only the sound of the wind as the car flew about 30ft (measured afterwards) came down again slightly skewed to the left front and started to somersault, this is where (I think) I was thrown out of the drivers window or even door and flew through the air to land on my front, feet facing down the bank, sliding downwards while watching the car continue somersaulting twice more before landing upside down in the concrete sided drainage ditch.
The back of the Mk3 Cortina estate had folded under itself, the roof was completely stove in and the front near side wheel was in the passenger footwell, right up to the seat.
I was heading down to Plymouth from Arbroath and had ALL my gear with me for leave then a transfer back to barracks so the back 'was' full!
That had been spread all over the bank and was mostly all around me.
2 drivers stopped, one had been following me sounding his horn, he said for about 3 miles, as he saw I was driving in a perfectly straight line and not following the road!!! The other was a removal truck, they had tea and blankets so I was able to negate the shock.
My injuries consisted of a wet sock (I had lost a shoe) and 6 thin parallel scratches across my back!

I had driven from Scotland down as far as the M6/M5 interchange then stopped for a kip at 02:00, woke up at 07:00, had a good breakfast then set off again, by 08:00 I was fast asleep!!

I consider myself very lucky indeed, if it had been a few months later ( when the seatbelt law came into effect) I would probably not be typing this now!

Ah, well if we're talking bikes, that would be a high side at Snetterton out of the old turn 2. The guy behind said "you where flung 12feet in the air". Luckily landing flat on me back, so nothing but bruising.

I have this memory of the bike disappearing under me, to be replaced by the sky and obviously a loud bang, then a strange reluctance to breath. :o

Black and blue for a month. ;D

Rolled my brand new (not a single payment made) Astra GTE into a field writing it off ,November 1985 my mate in passenger seat suffered no harm after feeling the cold of the soil no fewer than 5 times as the nearside door was ripped open. Passenger in rear suffered broken ankle (pre-rear seatbelts)as his foot was trapped under seat. I got away with a cut head as car ended on roof with Deep purple still blasting out! Look back on crash now and was very, very lucky as the other side of road was a forest of trees which wouldn'thave been nice!
