Having forgotten I'd left my auto locked in second, I'm sure there should be one as standard.

All modern cars have a rev limiter as standard.

There was a speed limiter at 155mph  on my Senators, which I imagine was a tyre safety feature. I presume it was in the engine ECU, and an engine rpm limiter would be a similarly sensible feature.

I'll start by making a couple of assumptions...

1. The car is manual with standard 16" alloys and 225/55/16 tyres.
2. You haven't blown it up yet.

On a suitably straight runway, or local road if you're feeling like winding the local bobby up...

Wind it up in third... should hit the limiter at 95-96mph or at a smidge over 6500 rpm.

If it doesn't, two things are apparent:

1.Summats not working as it should.
2. You've just lost your licence.

Just push the gas pedal to the floor,it will rev its nuts of but you should hear it bouncing of the rev limiter,if it goes bang you know something went wrong. ;D

They don't bounce, so much as stop revving :-\

Neither of my ex police 3.2's have a rev limiter. I'd have thought yours would be the same Al?

I had to make good progress in one of mine, left it in 2nd and forgot to change gear...resulted in a partially shredded aux belt  :-[

Sorry to the OP though, no idea how to sort your issue!

Mine hit a wall at 96 in third, assumed that was the limiter :-\

Tech2 can't reprogram / disable the rev limiter. A remap might, I suppose, but I can't see why they would. One missed gear change or stuck throttle and the engine is toast.

The standard rev limiter is up at around 7000 RPM, IIRC, and the engine is certainly on the back of the curve by then. Could it be that the limiter is subtle enough not to be obvious?

Aftermarket limiters are normally designed for engines with traditional coil + distributor ignition. I can't see how they could be installed on a drive-by-wire engine without a monumental bodge. :-\
