Weird eBay experience
« on: 04 June 2008, 23:56:04 »

As I've mentioned, the climate control on my car has packed up.  I found a CC unit for sale on eBay for £34 "buy it now", which is a bit beter than the £167 + VAT that the Vauxhall dealer wants.

The seller specifically mentions that the displays all work without any missing pixels.  As that's not what's wrong with mine, I sent a message asking him to confirm that the unit had been tested and did control temperature.  I didn't get a reply.

Anyway, I decided to buy it regardless, and pushed the "buy it now" button.  I immediately got a message saying

 Transaction Blocked
Unfortunately, this seller has decided that you are not permitted to bid on their listings.

Has anyone got any idea what this is all about?

A seller can stop people bidding/buying items.

They can choose not to sell to people with for example,  negative feedback, recent unpaid item strikes, breaches of policy reports, bought previous items of theirs, do not have a credit card on file etc.

Is that like removing a bid?
Perhaps he did not like your question, and to avoid potential problems pulled out of any deal. :)

I've got 100% positive feedback, but I haven't bought anything for over a year.  I checked on PayPal to see if my card was still valid before I pushed the button.

...asking questions that may expose a fault that a dodgy seller didnt want to disclose

might be that he was after a specific person to purchase it and would be easier to go through ebay for purchase and paypal etc.

Actually, I got a friendly e-mail from him saying he hasn't deliberately blocked me (or anyone) from bidding, so I sent him a picture of the screen I get to - haven't heard back yet.

Anyway, it's been overtaken by events... :) :) :)

yeah sounds like he has either got reject all bids if bidder doesnt have a credit card on file or reject if bidder doesnt have paypal account linked with ebay

i suspect the later as my dad had similar issues with his eBay listings and its becuase paypal trick you into saying yes to there question it goes something like

Only accept bids from bidders with paypal account registered and gives aload of bullcrap about why paypal is so good (which it aint)

Can't be that - my PayPal is OK, the status is Verified and the card hasn't expired.

He sent some stats with his reply, and it may be that my feedback score is calculated wrongly as I haven't bought or sold anything for over a year.  I don't quite understand how the feedback system works now.  :(

Ah -- I wonder ..... as a seller my stats are worked over the last three months (or month, according to what they are used for) .... maybe that's it -- too long inactive
