MV6 Estate, and today's problem is - Pissing Fuel!
« on: 21 January 2014, 23:10:38 »

Ok, whilst sitting in traffic, again, I could smell a hint of petrol from inside the car, so pulled over to have a sniff, and a big pool of petrol from underneath the rear of the Estate, pissing out from the front and both side of the Tank.

Engine off, stuck my head underneath, and my opinion was it was coming from the top of the Tank and dripping down, quiet a lot of it. with the fuel pleasure now off, pissing now slowing down, and a near empty tank, Im kind of drawn to it pissing out after the pump.

Too dark to really do anything anyway, had another look to see if I could find the pump output to the Fuel Filter, couldn't see nothing all seems hidden on top of the tank?

So, before I jack it all up tomorrow, I going to make some assumption on what Im looking for,  Im hoping for a split hose somewhere, guessing the pump is inside the tank, so looking at the possibility of a leak around the fuel filter?, rather that a hole or leak in the tank?, feel free to stop me here.!

Im expecting to see, probably a plastic or rubber hose, maybe 2, from the tank to the Filter, then from the Filter out. maybe more Plastic / rubber piping before it connects to the fuel line???, is the filter above the tank and if so is it get able easily? please tell me if Im way of course here as this area is all new territory to me.

Any other help, guidance or opinions would be great.  ;)

Forgot to ask, is the top of the tank, pump area, accessible from the top? (Estate) or is drop the Tank to get access?

Filter next to diff similar to saloon :y

Carpet out of boot, undo the four screws on the big plate to the right, tank and pump access here, if that's where your problem is should be obvious :y

My money is on a failed pipe from pump probably rotten where it passes through the top plate...

Thanks Al, I'll have a quick butchers at the filter, if not then go straight for Pump Pipe.  ;)

I've had four go this way, usually on the bend of the metal pipe. My cure is to relieve the pressure (both pipes off under the bonnet) , clean the pipes with wire brush and coarse emery cloth, then smear araldite around the pipe.
