Looks wise it'd be the saloon every time. But as above, an estate could be a contender in a few years when they become 'cheap'  :y :y :y

Provided they put a petrol engine in it ::)

Estate is diseasel only, and for that reason alone, I'm out.

Very good looking car whichever way you look at it though :y

Manufacturers don't like to called them a humble 'estate' so Sportbrake is obviously a reference to shooting brakes of olde ...... like MBs CLC Shooting Brake (wouldn't mind one of them either ..... but everything that you might want in a 'prestige car' is on the options list  ???)

I guess Station Wagon, Wagon, or Caravan all sound pretty staid as well!  ::)   I still don't get the 'Brake' thing though.  :-\

Maybe we should have an OOF competition to find a cool new name for the humble estate?  :)

Unfortunately, most manufacturers don't offer the highest performance engines on their estates, GM are guilty of this with their station wagons in the US.

XF Sportsbrake is good looking, but apparently high floor line limits load height and how practical it is and I don't want a modern diesel with a DPF, so the E series Mercedes estate still wins for me. I wonder what the running costs of the AMG with LPG would be where modern EU fuel consumption figures bare little relation to real world figures.
