Cambelt
« on: 24 January 2014, 12:45:47 »

Hi all, thanks for all the great advice.

Today's worry is the cambelt. I've no idea when it was last replaced.

I was listening to the engine this morning and I thought it was a bit noisy where the belt is. Does this mean that the belt needs changing or am I being paranoid?

I rang my local garage and they said the job would be £234 plus VAT. Is this a good price or should I shop around?

Thanks again. :y

If it wasn't for the oof I would never have bought another mig as they are too complicated for my little brain to cope with. ;D

I would get yourself upto Sereks Kate  :y.

Put it into perspective, it's a 200 mile return trip, so that's about £40 in fuel - you will get all the jobs done properly for a fair price, by someone who knows these cars well and wont rip you off .......

Nuf said & all IHMO ..... :-X

Agreed, but I was thinking more in the context of Kate needing the rear wheel bearing as well - and the advantage that Serek's 4 point lift would have in doing that .......

Thanks Rob.

Yes I think you are right. The garage wasn't even sure if they would do the job due to the problems they have had in the past.

Serek has a four-post lift? Has he got a spare room?  ;D

Recovered loads.

My sister managed to break one of my Capris(in a petrol station), but it's an annoyance rather than a problem. £5 and 30 minutes work got it done.
On a modern engine it simply isn't worth taking a chance,  especially on a V6 where the resulting work is very time consuming/expensive.

I'm going to get it done but I was worried about the time inbetween.
