I was with the AA over 28 years .. but now with Greenflag.. and would not even think of going back to the AA... which is now a purely commercial organisation owned by an equity group that includes SAGA it its portfolio.
"Saga was acquired by staff (20%) backed the private equity firm Charterhouse in 2004. Saga merged with The AA (owned by CVC and Permira) to form Acromas Holdings. Acromas is approx 20% owned by staff, 35% Charterhouse, 20% Permira, 20% CVC and 5% others."
The original "ideals" have long since been thrown in the bin ..
"The Automobile Association (The AA) is a British motoring association founded in 1905, which was demutualised in 1999 to become a private limited company which currently provides car insurance, driving lessons, breakdown cover, loans, motoring advice and other services. Following demutualisation the AA Motoring Trust was created in 2002 to continue its public interest and road safety activities. In 2007 the AA merged with Saga Group to form Acromas Holdings."
