Advice ,new omega . .how to
« on: 25 January 2014, 21:24:37 »

how to get it home ?  :-\ :-\

hi all,
advice needed on a possible purchase .    I am looking at the possibility of buying 2001 3.2 MV6.

Car is a private sale but is on sorn .  Am just waiting for a reply  if it has any MOT.  It is 40 miles away  from here .

Question is if I buy it , How best & most economically can I get it home legally?  or is a transporter the only way.

Insurance is not a problem ,can start a new policy or switch from my 2.6 MV6

any advice welcome     TIA    Al  :y :y

If you book it in for a M.O.T and drive it back and straight to the station I think you should be ok.  :-\

Sounds like a plan  :y :y    and then tax it when it passes ?  but what if it don't ? :-\ :-\

No probs with booking it in for a test here in Southend .

Don't know much about this car as yet  . . . only seen pictures  . . looks quite nice  .  .and it is a bargain price .

Nice little project I thought

Then you are allowed to take it home and work on it or to a place it can be repaired for its M.O.T.  :y :y

If its got Mot then I would risk it for no Tax,  if stoped there unlikely to take the car off you if you have just bought it, worst case if you get reported for no Tax, you will be responsible for the back tax since you owned the car, which in your case is about 40 mins.

If no Mot I would book it in twice in to seperate Garages, say one about 6 miles from the Seller and the other about an hour later up to 6 miles from you, that way your covered.

The Mot rule is its suposed to be local which 40 miles, isn't.

Yea, buts its not local to the seller, the Police and DVLA views are, has to be a Local Mot Station. Dont think you get away with driving 30 mile to Al's Local. Anyway Ive said what I would do.  :y

To paraphrase my first report checking sergeant as a trafPol,  think upon the circumstances of your purchase as the father of your recently deceased child having been struck by said new purchase.

Would you be happy with attempts to circumvent legality??

Hire a trailer and get a suitable tow vehicle.

If you drive it with the 'booked mot at home' excuse, how many test stations did you pass to get home?  How many would have deemed the car unroadworthy?

How many insurance company's would cleanse their hands of the matter quicker than a greasy whore on quadruple overtime on a busy Saturday night when it goes wrong??

Your call, but not on my conscience, thanks....
