Take number plates of current omega, and put on the buyer  :y.  Not failed me yet,
anpr read the plates, no ping no problem. :y

another just legal tip from me :y

Er, isn't than an ILLEGAL  tip then?

Not half. :o Can't believe I just read that. Any idea how serious the gloving would be if you did get pulled over and the VIN checked? Not to mention the worst that could happen as H21 eludes. Just get someone to transport it or MOT it locally to the seller and get them to fix any issues before bringing it home.

That little bit of advice is unbelievable ...... tongue in cheek or not. Not having the required paper work work is one thing, but fraudulently suggesting you do have is er ......... fraud. And I'm sure the fine/points you'd get for fraud would top trump those you'd get for not having the correct paper work in the first place.

Are you for real?

Fraud as well as the assorted RTA offences?

Once upon a time I used to look forward the wee cases like that that dropped into my lap. Without the tears and grief of death...... ::)

As for trade plates. They cover VEL and only that. Not insurance. Not MOT. Not road worthiness. Nowt other than road tax.

Hire a trailer.

Or a recovery company.

Actually he's not on his own. My Dad recently had a car for sale .... spares or repair. A prospective buyer from miles away down 'darn sarf' suggested exactly the same thing to get the afore mentioned car back home ...... my dad sold it to some one else.  :-X

Al goes to see the car, it transpires it has an MoT insurance is a phonecall away, and taxing can be done at local post office where car is currently, everyone happy :y

The seller might even tax it at cost, assuming it's insured currently...

No MoT then looking at a trailer or similar as suggested :y Unless seller agrees to put it through MoT as a sale condition... how the car gets home then depends on result of said test :y

Still no response from seller  . . . so don't know about MOT   . . .but nothing mentioned in ad

Texted earlier tonight   & no response . . . . but   will ring number tomorrow .

I had the same problem a couple of years back when I needed to get a 2.5 from Northants to Southend  . . .Cost of

transporting puts the car in the "not such a good deal " bracket . :'( :'(

But whatever happens  . .won't be "swapping" plates  " :P :P

Trade Plates only cover Road Tax Licence (even then only under certain circumstances), if booked in for an Mot you cannot use Trade Plates for the purpose of No Tax to and from an Mot Station. you have to abide by the normal Rules and drive the Vehicle on its own plates.

As said before, if its a no Tax issue, and for 40 miles I would probably take the chance, as long as as the Vehicle is going to to be Taxed shortly afterwards for that period, probably wont hear any more about by post. Ive had to do it a few times as a Trader where Ive picked up a Vehicle that was on Disability Tax and can only be re taxed by Post or a DVLA Centre visit.

As for no Mot, yea, its a risky one, as Hotel21 says, potential uninsured Vehicle, if local, and Local for me would be 6 miles max, possibly up to to 10 miles if you live in the sticks, even then I would be paranoid about making sure everything is as legit as possible, ie carrying my Traders Policy, having roof of purchase, signed and time and date stamped and making sure the index plate was booked in for an Mot, even then I would only do this if I was sure the Vehicle was it in fit condition to drive and worthy of an Mot Test.

Having said all that, the Law states you can can legally drive an Untaxed Vehicle without an Mot, to and from a Local MOT Station as long as there is valid Insurance in place. There are no official distance or mileage guidelines as to what is local, but DLVA guidelines recommend it must be a direct route or maybe via a Petrol Station and the Vehicle cannot be on the road for more than 1 Hour each way in Total.

As for Al, I'm sure he already knows that Southend in Essex is a well known ANPR Monitored Ready Town, so he's knowledge will be his guide.  :y

Do you know a local backstreet garage with a breakdown truck??

My local one charges £2/mile.....so you'd be looking at £80 at those prices....
