Savile: A year later ........
« on: 27 January 2014, 20:07:46 »

Over a year has gone by since this broke with the associated media attention.

Does anyone actually still think he was innocent? I recall some debate that he might have been, IIRC ......

If he wasn't guilty he must rank a mention in the Guinness Book of Records as the most maligned man since Vlad the Impaler! ::)

Never liked the man, there was always something not quite right about him even back in the day when many considered him a "national treasure".
Creepy bastard. May he rot in hell.

We will never truely know.

I suspect not all the claims (not just against Saville) are genuine, as people are after free money and/or notoriety/fame.

Having met 2 people involved in all this hoo-hah, I'm not surprised there are claims against them, though neither tried it on with me. WTF is wrong with me? ;D

Definitely a creepy bugger.

BUT.

There's something odd about the amount of claims...there's even claims today that Fred weatherman dude did some abusing. Not saying it didn't happen but the amount of claims put a lot of doubt in my mind. Knowing what folk are like

There's no doubt that some of the claims are false from freaks looking for cash.

What I don't understand though is how after all this time,30/40 odd years in some cases, can someone be charged?
I don't mean SaVILE, he's obviously guilty (IMO) , meaning more the likes of DLT,Fred the weatherman, Ken Barlow.
Surely there can't be evidence after all this time?
If its a case of someone just saying "oh I was sexually abused by Mr.X" how did it end up in court? What proof is there? Isn't it just the person saying they did it... And the accused saying no they didn't?

Exactly what I thought. How can it possibly be proved or denied?

Just an opinion..... ::)

Swmbo and I were chatting after the News tonight, Now in no way am I condoning Sexual abuse on anyone, minor or not, then or now. They were very different times. I seem to recall patting, pinching bottoms etc was the norm, but this would not be the case today, we even saw such behaviour regularly on the TV, in many of the popular comedy shows of the time. To me this is not dissimilar to ‘Love thy Neighbour’ in some ways, you, rightly, would not get away with it today.

Given the ‘different times’ and the hero worship of some of these celebrities, how many of these women were, at the time, throwing themselves at them.

As said, with one or two of the said accused I would have little doubt that they abused their power and influence to get away with abusive behaviour, after all, who would believe an accuser; I do struggle with them all being guilty, and do feel that some people have jumped on the bandwagon.

Vamps, a fair summary and I am with you on that. Historic charges make no sense when you consider the going rate in behaviours then as opposed to now, and as you say, women used their bodies and sexuality to gain favours with the stars and now they smell money!
This is compounded by police action; they are stinging from damage done to their reputation by Plebgate and that football disaster where they also lied, and they need to go into this investigation hell for leather to try to rebuild credibility.
It isn't working. They are damaging their credibility even more by falsely hounding the biggest names they can for historic charges which, at the time, would have attracted no more than raised eyebrows.
If we are to prosecute people for the way things were 30/40 years ago, homosexuals had better watch out!

You only get rear ended by girls ::)

Louis Therouxs Meets... was quite an interesting character study of Jimmy Saville, certainly didn't paint him in a positive light...

Ok, it's Scots Law and not English law, but no doubt there will be something similar.

Go google 'moorof doctrine' and read and comprehend.

It's a proven legal method leading to conviction based on minimal evidence of an individual nature but so linked due to like circumstances in time, method, ability etc etc such that each individual circumstance leads to corroboration of others.

And yes, undoubtedly there will be some who are only in it for the sponduliks.....

Interesting views.

What I do know is that it is human nature to push the boundaries. Most people don't get the opportunity to live out their fantasies however put the people in a position where they can and they do.

Example. Workhouses and Catholic institutions where child abuse or just plain abuse was rampant.
Example The Wests

So lets not kid ourselves that position abuse, sexual abuse, child abuse isn't going on or never has gone on. It is rife in all countries even so called civilised ones like Britain. Most goes totally unnoticed, unreported and in many cases condoned by people around who should have known better. I call it tip of the iceberg.

Attitudes have changed. It is only 100 years since women got the vote. In many countries they still haven't and are not treated as equals. In fact even in Britain they are not true equals. only last month a tribal court in India ordered the 20 man gang rape of a woman for some "misdemeanour" which resulted in her death. I think it is Zimbabwe that has just introduced life sentences for certain homosexual acts.

For me it is sad that these cases have taken so long to come to light and for justice to be done. In Savilles case he got away scot free in my view.
