ToughBook Diagnostic laptop, has any one used one of the above, are they any good? If so what is a good price

The Toughbook isn't just designed for diags, it was designed to run Windows (or whatever your OS of choice was) and it was aimed at anybody who worked in harsh conditions (eg, building sites, etc).

The Toughbook certainly lives up to it's name, but unless you are a complete vulva with no co-ordinational skills then an ordinary laptop will more than suffice.

we used to use them as a remote terminal, all our service dockets where put on to them....they used to crash more than once a day and the battery life was dire.

one thing to consider if you are carrying it in a car put it behind the back seat as the damn thing is a lump and if some tit pulls out on you and you brake and the tough book goes shooting forward anything in its path will get smashed / broken .

They have been around a while and are available in all sorts of versions/specs .......

So, as for a "good price", that depends on whether you are buying new, S/H and how old/spec etc ........

A lot of toughbooks will be quite old now. Ruggedness aside, they are bog standard machines

They were a good idea when they came out, used a lot in the service field by people like me who used to work in fairly harsh environments, I think you would be better using a modern laptop unless you have specific needs for a Tough book.

What are you going to use it for?

Do you need serial ports etc ?

Agreed, using it for car diagnosis would be ok but an ordinary laptop or if used inside your garage even a small form factor with longer leads would suffice I had this myself in the past mounted in a wheeled cabinet.

Where I saw and used the Toughbook was more in field service roles outside, factories, traffic control and food factories, they really can test a Tough book

I assume you're not a clumsy clot, and generally take care of stuff. Thus, any suitably specced lappy will do
