Carin SatNav main unit (brain) location...
« on: 10 February 2014, 17:50:03 »

Hello folks, Iv got meself a CarIn SatNav from a PF Omega Elite, i had a similar system in my Vectra and will be retrofitting the SatNav into my FL Elite...

What Im wanting to know is, where does/did the main unit (brain) actually reside. Im presuming somewhere in the boot, but dunno where..

Has anyone got pics of the location please..

TIA Matt

On saloon, just in front of spare wheel - 2 bolts into side panel, one into parcel shelf.

Estaet can be on tunnel, or in headlining, depending on age.

In a FL, where do you plan on fitting screen? An NCDC would have been a more seemless upgrade to Satnav...  ...bit quicker than the CARiN as well.

I'm sure Rob will have a picture somewhere, but it lives over the near side suspension turret in the boot.  ;)

I see what your saying about the NCDC unit but I'm removing the OEM stereo and replaceing it with my own...

I also use my iPod a lot whilst on journeys, so the NCDC won't be much use to play MP3's etc... especially with the HU controlling my iPod...

I will be retrofitting the screen into the right hand centre vent, already cut and waiting to be installed into the motor... just needed to know where abouts in the boot the brain was located...

pics are a great help though, if someone might oblige :)

Thanks for the answers so far :y

That reminds me, I still need to sort out the MP3 input on my Facelift, now that a mod has been running well on the PFL for over a year :)

No problem...

I usually don't do pics etc... but thinking of a how2 on retrofitting this type of SatNav....

Iv already sorted the screen mount, just need to get down to me shed and find a piece of plastic or even foam to sit the screen into...

just need to fit the controller somewhere, i was hoping to fit it just in front of the gear stick but theres heater pipes under there so cant put it there  :'(

Just need to get a little time tomorrow to find a location for it....

I think there will be a problem trying to locate the controller there as its actually quite deep, maybe 3" long once installed, so need to find somewhere that can accept the depth of the controller or take the controller apart and retrofit that somewhere.. I reckon it needs to be somewhere near the screen so that its pretty obvious what its for...

Im used to retrofitting stuff so this isnt much of a challenge to instal.. i just didnt know where the main unit actually 'lived'... I presume there will possibly be holes in the bodywork to accept the main units bracket... no problem for a drill though i guess  :D

The 2 in the side will line up with the plastic clips holding "carpet" to metalwork, and the top one will line up with a hole there. Fitting nuts and bolts to the 2 at the side are no issue, top one to parcel shelf will be a tad more fiddly, but nothing difficult...  ...I think I chemical metaled a nut in place when I retro fitted mine (then removed it when I fitted the later NCDx unit)
