Just wondering if anyone has any experience of these? I mean ones like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DIESEL-KEROSENE-SPACE-HEATER-NEW-70000BTU-WITH-THERMOSTAT-/191065353534

I was recently impressed with how quickly one got a three car garage size workshop nice and warm despite having a 7'7" garage door open to the outside world.. not completely sure I have enough space (they say 2.5m from anything flammable) but the ventilation requirements seem small (0.29m2) compared to gas heaters and allegedly produce much less water in the air (which is half the problem I'm trying to combat!).

In a 5.5 x 5.5m garage it's probably overkill, but also quite possibly a lot cheaper than electric? It's that or perhaps I'm better off with some background electric heat (say a 2Kw convection heater)..


Choices choices, but they do get so toasty warm.

I will admit I did briefly think about the 20L of used engine oil sitting in the garage.. but then decided that would probably be a swift way to clog the thing up, and diesel is cheap enough given how much they (say) they consume..

Good point about the smell though - mind the one I witnessed smelt like roses (or not at all, really). Having said that I couldn't run it with the door closed without gassing myself, either way..

they're absolutely fab, but possibly overkill for your place.

think Rolls-Royce RB211 and you won't be far wrong

Yeah I was slightly shocked at the amount of noise they produce! You're right, probably overkill (although the space is set to expand soon..)..

Yes they will run on Diesel or Kerosene but may need the fuel pressure adjusting to get a clean burn.........

Its when they start to run out of fuel they get interesting so keep on eye on them.

Waste oil heaters work well though.

Have some fish ready  as they do get a tad smoky as they run out of fuel

On the plus side they can heat up a  cold and draughty workshop (are they not all) rather sharpish

I'll be interested in this, should Woman and I manage to get ourselves a unit towards the end of the year... bad memories of working in a unit with a gas heater making us all very ill, despite ventilating it properly.

Depending on the size of unit these are not really seen as a healthier alternative to gas

In the good old days folk used to use site gas heaters indoors with propane and suffered for it

It's that long ago, I can't remember what type it was. 

One thing at a time, we need a unit before we can think of heating, haha...
