Can we get behind this chap and help him out?
« on: 14 February 2014, 08:15:54 »

I know he is raising money but there is a lot more than that he requires to achieve his goal.  I though that some on here would be able to help sourcing parts, any spare tools we may have, know of any cheap cars he could use, mechanical training and helping setup the car before he goes etc.

He is an Ex-Army officer who is married to a friend of mine, doing this crazy thing in support of a charity close to his heart.

Maybe we can get him to put an OOF sticker in the back window?  ;D

How about we organise a meet and give the car a good check over and general service for them?

Given what they are doing the likes of a full set of fluids changed, fabricate a sump gaurd, check suspension over carefuly etc etc would be a good 'gift' perhaps

That sounds like a really great idea. I'd be up for it. :y

I'm sure I could help with sourcing a car, or even donating one. 1 litre awful cars are things I always shove through an auction so I'd be glad to see one doing something useful  :y

Preferably something a bit old school, the last thing they want is it loaded with a plethora of electronics IMHO.

True, but it also needs to be robust.  A 205 would ideal but I bet there arent many around :/

Reality is that any thing with a 1.0 engine is going to be pretty basic (and tiring to drive over that distance)

Could an Omega actually move with a 1.0 Nova engine fitted :-\ would a 1.0 turbo Mondeo even last the distance ::)

I would think a Polo or Corsa would be suitable. A Micra and a Yaris I would discount. A 973cc Corsa doesn't sound like an inspired or exciting choice, but it'd probably be what I'd go for.
Matt, have a chat with him, and see what he'd prefer  :y
I certainly take on board nothing too modern, but a 2001 Corsa C, or even a Corsa B seems ok?

Would a Bedford Rascal be rugged and Diy friendly enough to do the trip :-\
