I want my own scrapyard
« on: 19 February 2014, 19:07:39 »

Been having a really rough ride in work and at the same time been breaking a few cars at home, made some decent cash just selling bits then getting the shells picked up so a bit of a dream would be my own yard ,being my own boss etc. Well smack my arse with a kipper there is a 6000sq ft, fully licensed yard with offices and storage come up for rent near me for £200 a week.  I can't afford the start up sadly but I would have thought it would be more expensive than that to rent.

Anyone fancy going halves  ;) ;D

Remember you need to factor in all the 'eld and safety/environment 'dangle berries', and then business rates. And the costs of accountants, banking (as not free to businesses) and everything else that goes with it.

Check the rates and whether there is a premium to be paid. Service charges?

No free lunch?

Incidentally if you want your arse slapped with a fish to go the Fast Food thread and you will get it done cheap by the fat whaler of Wakefield

I believe it to be compulsory for 'scrappies' to have spent a large proportion of their adult life behind bars..... ::) ::) ;D

....before they go straight.  ::) ::) ::) ::);)

Oh, and you'll need a 'mentally disturbed' hound to guard the place during the hours of darkness. ;) ;D ;D

Scrap yards don't make their money from selling parts. The real money is in disposing of bodies left in boots or making stolen vehicles disappear. You should be busy in Liverpool  ;D

Yes , always wanted to set up some sort of business in scrap cars and wish i had done  :( The local scrap yard owners have done very well , they are always busy and have made a fortune from it . Not knocking the foreign people at all but nowadays the scrappies are full of foreign people stripping cars for parts making a good living out of repairing accident damaged cars .  :y

A group company had a big place at Biggleswade and we got our fingers burnt in scrapping the Ark Royal (R09) in the early 1980s. Asbestos!!

It was broken in Scotland.
