Gasket kits/sets
« on: 01 March 2014, 13:01:45 »

Good day chaps and chapesses.

As some might know I have had some engine trouble with my 2.5TD, low or no compression on 2 & 4 cylinders. There was almost a deal done with another engine but that has fallen through, so, now the car is back at my sons hard standing and with the better weather on the way, I was thinking of putting up a portable garage and having a go at the head myself when I can get the time.
Apart from the possible replacement parts I may or may not need, one thing is certain. I will need gaskets, either individually or in a kit/set form.
Can anyone recommend where I can get these from, should I be calling Arnold Clark Dundee who know I am in the TC through ABS (and they are also BMW dealers now) or is there somebody/somewhere else I should be contacting.

The other alternative is to buy Keith B's TD and swap the auto box with my manual, then strip my old car and sell parts to help offset the outlay. I could also buy Zirks 3.2 but I must admit to preferring the straight six oil burner.

Decisions decisions.

Landrover dealers/part suppliers also worth a look, and on that basis, you should find these people really helpful...

Well that was a turn up for the books!!

The on going saga of poor compression on 2 cylinders has taken a turn for the better (we think).

Towed to another garage and within a day he had discovered that two injector tips were badly burnt! He thinks this is a result of over use of that ezystart, so, now I need some new injectors or can I get away with replacing the tips as they come in around the £25 mark.

I don't have enough experience with these injectors but I would imagine if the tips are sold separate then they must be replaceable yes?
I would really like this confirmed before I go ahead and make a purchase. Luckily it appears that the #4 injector is OK, that was replaced about a year ago.

Further to my last, it has been recommended that all 6 nozzles are replaced and then the injectors refurbished, calibrated and tested. This was coming in at approx 50 quid per unit plus VAT from the specialist in Dundee.
I had a quick word with James at injectortune (I mentioned this a few months back as he will give us discount) he can do the whole lot plus return postage for 205 quid, saving quite a bit of money there.
I know his work is good as he did a set of injectors for me for the 2.6 Carlton and that has made quite a difference in fuel economy and performance.
So we shall see what that brings. My friendly mehanic has said that he doesn't think there was any damage to valves or pistons from this high burning temp, only the injector nozzles (Lets hope so).
So another salutory lesson to not use Ezystart!
Plus a reminder that the injectortune offer is still good.

I hasten to add, I do not work and have never worked for injector tune so I am not going to gain anything by pushing this service, it's purely for the forum benefit.

Cheers

So far so good, all injectors sorted with new nozzles, tested and on their way back to Scotland, hopefully Tony will be slotting them back in toot suite and running the lump to check for any other damage!!
Fingers crossed there is none.

When I replaced the chains and tensioners/guides on my wheesel I found BMW considerably cheaper than Vauxhall for the parts. They even delivered the parts foc :)

Aye it's been a while. :(

With a heavy heart I have to report that all is not good.
No compression on 3 & 5!

I don't have the premises, time and now inclination, to get this sorted.
I am going to offer it up for spares/repair bearing in mind I cannot strip this myself as I have nowhere to put it.
It will also be going on the bay of E for 1 week only, after that the scrap man will come and take it away. :'(
