In the past I have bought from Autovaux. They currently want £42-13 for cam belt kit and £29.00 for a water pump. Are these good value, and is the water pump a good one?

Regular sources include buypartsby and Euro Car Parts.
Check them out for comparison  :y

Depends what you are getting for this. If they are the cheapest Chinese tat, that's poor value. If they are genuine GM, then its good value. However, Autovaux will try to make out that they are the same as genuine, even if they are not.

My big worry is the quality of the water pump. A year ago I lost a 2.0 when the water pump failed and the cam belt jumped. I had changed cam belt kit and water pump 20,000 miles earlier, but not genuine Vx parts. Next time I fitted genuine Vx pump, it cost about £70. I see water pumps from £15 upwards. How do I recognise a good one?

I bought a water pump from buypartsby recently for £22 and it looked identical to the old one.  :y  I think some members have bought cheap ones which have a plastic impeller rather than a metal one and they have failed.  :-\

Metal blades went years ago, last 2 belt kits I got from GM have had plastic blades on the water pump.

What failed on mine was not the impeller, it was the bearings. This allowed the pulley to wobble about, which in turn let the cam belt jump teeth; disaster followed.

BuyPartsBy offer a timing belt kit including water pump for £72.90 inc. VAT. Autovaux offer TB kit for £42.13 and water pump for £29.00, no mention of VAT. Euro Parts offer a choice of TB Kit  SKF £58.74 ContiTech £64.60; Circoli water pump £28.20, KWP water pump £34.20; no mention of VAT. I cannot find Vx TC prices of cam belt kit of water pump.

I would appreciate recommendations. In the past I have always found SKF kits fine.

I thank you all for your good advice. I am inclined to go with Euro Parts, buy the SKF timing belt kit and the better (or dearer) KWP water pump. They have  Bristol depot where I could call, but they offer free delivery 2-4 days which would also suit.
Comments invited - if I am making a mistake, please tell me.

Come to think of it, it is very near Vauxhall Direct, which is Trade Club, for antifreeze and any other bits I might need.

Gates for the belt or Contitech, don't get Dunlop...

SKF for waterpump and its hit and miss as to whether or not it comes with plastic or metal blades...

SKF rollers are good...

I did the full kit on my spare X20XEV not long (about 5K ago), and that was with all parts bought from AutoVaux and all are OEM quality.. Cost was around £100 for everything including VAT and delivery and a 5 litre can of SemiSynthetic GM oil... also came with the cam cover gasket too for some reason but that didn't get fitted as the 1 thats on is GM... The problem I always found with the X20XEV was the camcovers always warp and leak....

Thanks, Minifreek. Autovaux have always supplied SKF cam belt kits, and I like them. But how did you assess the quality of the water pump? They all look the same to me.
