3.0l elite hesitant driving off.
« on: 15 March 2014, 14:16:28 »

ok, here goes,
3.0l with lpg(dissconnected). from 1st start up cold or hot it runs very lumpy, try to drive off & it will cough & splutter, no power for maybe about 5-10 seconds then it will rev as normal. only does it from startup. drives normally after.
ive changed the maf, the tps, the icv. even throttle body & plenumn. dont seem to able to find any vac leaks.
now, ive noticed that its worse when the sai pump is running.
do we have any ideas chaps. oh, no codes are shown or management lights come on at all.
regards, jon.
baffled.  :-\

Have you looked at live data? What is the plug condition/colour?

SAI is just blowing down the exhaust, so I would imagine it only gets worse with that running due to the extra electrical load. What about EGR? Tried blanking that off in case it's leaking?

Failing that, I would say that your fuel trims are drifting out, maybe due to a lambda sensor / MAF issue or an intake air leak, to the point that the idle mixture is so far off that it will barely idle. Often happens if you have a poorly mapped LPG system leading it astray. Are you running it on LPG at all at the moment?

Are you able to see live data?

Ok, smell of petrol would indicate it's way too rich at startup, so fuel trims might be creeping up while running (maybe due to a leak of unmetered air) and then cause the starting issue as they are stored in NVRAM from the previous run.

Worth checking the LPG injector lines for any splits? That might well be why it's not happy on LPG, and they would introduce an air leak on petrol too.

But, i dissed the lpg injectors & put it back to petrol running only. was still the same.  :-\

I've had exactly that from an unclean electrical signal from the crank speed sensor

.... and yes, SAI leaks will cause that, too. ( from the two short rubber hoses, usually )
