Irmscher bodykit rear bumper and towbars
« on: 17 March 2014, 09:51:07 »

Has anyone got the Irmscher bodykit rear bumper fitted with a towbar...?

I understand that the 'proper' exhaust for the Irmy bodkit goes along the bumper at the rear but also can it be fitted with a towbar too...?

I have the full Irmy kit to fit to my Miggy but am unsure about if the towbar I have at the moment (standard type not removeable or euro type or swan neck) will fit with the exhaust or is there a 'special' type that can be used...?

I will also be fitting the exhaust for the kit too... which runs inside the rear bumper...

Anything can be made to fit, but Irmscher never released a towbar compatible bumper for the Omega. The closest they did was to offer the rear bumper with a single exit exhaust, which still requires the bumper to be cut...

Bordering on sacrilege given their rarity :o

Don't do it!

I have a towbar that is not being fitted to mine now.

So I'll trade you the towbar for the Irmy kit  ::) ;D ;D ;D

I know theyre rare, but couldnt pass on buying the kit....

I might just see what I can do to make it fit with the towbar, maybe a detachable ball/neck and detachable exhaust too LOL

Incidentally how much is 1 of these kits worth...? or is this not allowed..?

I got the full kit including sideskirts, front and rear bumper, heatshield for the exhaust, I got an exhaust for it with twin exit but isn't Irmy....

I also got a Lotus Carlton rear spoiler too, but not 100% as to whether I should fit it or not..

The last ever new front bumper sold for €1500. Second hand depends on condition, but a complete kit in good condition is worth about a grand. A butchered rear bumper/exhaust combo will be worth half of sfa...

Personally, if I needed the tow bar I would sell the bumper/exhaust... certainly wouldn't fit it ::)

As for the LC spoiler, Keith B will be able to give you an idea of value, but sticking it on an Omega is, imho, retarded, especially if it's intact and genuine :-\

Summat like this might be better if you're trying to be different...

Be hard pushed to get anywhere near that on here Al. Off the forum would be a big maybe as well

As Al says, the either side of the number plate exit exhaust is listed as not compatible with toe bar on the irmscher web site.

But to make it work, you'd need to make a custom link pipe to run round the back of whatever tow bar is fitted.

If the bumper needs cutting depends on the tow bar type. It looked like a swan neck "might" fit through one of the square cut moulded cut out under the number plate on mine. But the structural integrity of the bumper will be compromised on any event. They tend to flap a little at the bottom edge as standard anyway. :(

I have the Irmscher full kit fitted with a fixed ball towbar.

All that was needed to get the bar to fit was to cut a "channel" in the rear bumper of exactly the towbar main bar width, just long enough so the finished edge rests on the towbar. two small holes were then drilled through the bumper to allow a tiewrap to secure the edges of the channel in place to stop vibration induced stress.

I did this as there is no intention to remove the bodykit, and the car was bought with the intention of towing with it. It was all done on the principle of "measure three times/cut once" .. but I think we measured at least 6 times !!

The "channel" cannot be seen unless you lie under the car.

If I get the chance in the next hour I'll try and get a picture or two.

Yours is a one sided exit though Nige, if I remember correctly?

I believe the op has the either side exit (like mine. Far superior  8) ;) )

Yes mine is the twin exit 'superior' bumper LOL

Iv just had a look on an auction site and there is a single exit on there at the moment but is quite a way off from me and is collection only :(

I may just fit the rear bumper but have the exhaust on the right hand side as a dummy, I need to keep my towbar for the caravan and trailer....

I didnt realise the bodykit was worth that much TBH, I knew its rare but blimey...

I need to get it painted and on now, but that wont be for another couple months I reckon....
