When i had a Beetle I used to use Asda own brand oil. It was £3 for 5 litres I think.

I use to change it every 250,000 miles though! ;D
I get a feeling that Asda oil is supplied by Castrol. Whilst I have used it to top up, not sure I'd use it for an oil change if it is Castrol.

I've always assumed it's a product manufactured by one of the oil companies for 'Own Label' customers, such as GM, Halfords etc  :-\

Gm own a few patents on lubricants. It doesn't make sense to "brew" it all in one place and ship it. Brew local, less shipping. ...

So, again presuming. It's the specification, rather than who makes it.

I see.  So 'Genuine' GM might be made by BP here, Total in France or Exxon in The States, but as it's made to GM's specifications it's the same stuff?  :-\  ::)
