Fuchs cook their own...

Comma belongs to ESSO (Exxon)

http://www.commaoil.com/about/history

So you could say that GM and Comma oil are one and the same ;)

Ahem... it's not a secret anymore ::)
There's one on every website ::)

Fifth row down, centre gimp ;D

Off to find a sensible website to answer the question...

Exxon Mobil apparently  :y

I had a quick look around too and saw Fuchs, Comma, and Esso!  ::)  Where's oilman when you need him!  :D

Too busy posting adverts for oil that's more expensive than gm stuff on trade club.

Can I post sale ads for expensive omegas in any section I like? Nope.

Maybe if I call meself omegaman and had a web site that's always got a sale on, it would be ok. ::)

Pretty certain that it is supplied by Fuch. But buggered if I can remember where I found that. No idea if its a specific GM spec, or if GM just picked one of Fuch's offerings.

Not everyone has/wants access to tradeclub for their own various reasons. Or have specific requirements/preferred brands. Or want oils for other components beyond the engine.

So Opie Oils, aka oilman, have a welcome place on this forum as a recommended, trusted seller. Its up to members to decide if they wish to use them based on their own criteria.

If you have a bad experience with this or any other seller that cannot be resolved between you, please let the Admin Team know, and we will make decisions based on other feedback as well.

A reminder from the Forum Guidelines:
Members being offensive to other members will not be tolerated. Offensive or abusive public threads or private messages will be looked in to and appropriate action taken by the Moderators.

Whilst the post was not exactly offensive, constant bitching about a member is.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation :)

Whilst Opie oils have their uses, its clear their online presence is overly aggressive and sensationalist. Early days oilman was seen as a technical resource for members and therefor helpful.
These days "oilman" or whoever has access to the account at Opie these days, has their cubby hole firmly planted in sales, rather than technical. Ok, oil is oil and the technical answers are in the history of oof for those that care to search, but newer members are aware of non of this.
So given the overly sales orientated posts these days, and the option to balance these adverts with a view for newer members that Opie are not the cheapest for fear of infringing oof rules, I find the stance from admin quite alarming.

Newer members are not aware of tc, and from the posts from oilman would be forgiven for thinking Opie are the best thing since sliced bread. While the rest of us can't post about our ebay adverts.(which I understand to a point)

While I understand the window for admin to be fair gets narrower as time and decisions go by, I do feal oilman is letting the forum down with constant battering of adverts from a sales oriented view above all else. There's no interest in any technical answers to questions posted, as was the case before. Even by their own standards they have posted technical threads stating ask your questions here, only to be ignored.

...and given the history here, that lest sentence, well....

That is a decision for the Admin Team, and has been the subject of an ongoing discussion within the Admin Team. Once we work out a way how to properly deal with recommended providers, we are where we are. If we think they are straying outside of any guidelines we give them (which we haven't, as we have not sorted that out yet  :-[, preferring to use software instead), then its the responsibility of the Admin Team to bring them back on track.

Like all businesses with no specific Omega interests, they pay their online staff to drive sales. They can do this in multiple ways. Without being specific, some do so by helping with technical issues, thus working on a word of mouth principle. Some are more direct.

The Admin Team choose only those that provide a genuinely good service to our members. Note, we do not choose any that give the forum management backhanders/bribes commission or subscriptions, as we would rather any such payments would be in the form of direct discounts to our members. Much to the annoyance of certain companies that connect us on a monthly basis offering commission in return for forum access  ::). As much as we'd love additional incomes to help pay for the hardware/software/hosting/bandwidth/running costs, we think that is open to perceived corruption, should any disputes arise.

I hope that provides a small insight into why and who we allow to promote their goods and services.

So, in essence, Opie Oils are a welcomed member here, and provide benefits to (some of) our members.  Unless you have specific preferences, I wouldn't buy my engine oil from them, I'd buy GM on Tradeclub.

Personally, I don't appreciate the hard sell approach. If I/we as a membership are to be subjected to adverts by a member and nothing else, then I'd ask admin to accept advertising and make a few quid at what they do and commit a lot if time to. Its only fair.

But I suspect that's not what admin and members alike want, certainly from an outward appearance point of view. :-\

Allgerman posted up about their new web site recently. Rightly or wrongly I considered that to be helpful to members as its a lot easier to order and find parts.

If its a matter for admin, maybe keep the issue within admins domain until a decision is made. If members want to advertise, that should go for all members not just a select few it seems to me.

Perhaps these advert posts should be kept in the recommended suppliers section. It does seem odd that parts sections has more (7?)recommended suppliers, like Jpat, Allgerman, etc than the recommended section itself.

I I want oil, I can look in recommended for opies latest offers, rather than have it thrust under my nose in any section I look in. I can get than anywhere.

That's part of the problem, we're struggling to get the software to play properly (or as we foresee it should in that section), and its way down the priority list of fixes we need to implement - Admin Team would have seen my to-do list just to fix the lingering issues following the server failure last year, and important failures/potential failures that have happened since.

Please bear with us. Its effectively just me who can deal with technical/programming issues, and I have a lot of things all going on in my world at the moment.

Until then, please don't keep knocking suppliers every time they post, or even when they don't. As always, if you think a post is inappropriate, just report it the first time you see it (and don't go search for previous posts now and reporting them ;)), and the mods will look at them and decide if/what...
