I was supposed to be moving to Cornwall on Saturday. It all had to be cancelled as my current home failed its electrical inspection.

The electrician said the earth system is no good. The house is only 3 years old!

I'm sick of waiting now.

I agree with Red baron - how come?
How is it (supposedly) earthed at present, and what was measured to conclude thayt it was unsatisfactory?
I do have a certain amount of practical experience with earthing matters, as I once had to implement an earthing system for a Radio Station at my college, where I taught radio engineering. It was necessary to have a good earth for screening purposes and I used some 8 foot copper-bonded steel rods driven into the ground adjacent to the transmitter and coupled directly to the earth return on the transmitter.
As it was after a few years of really dry weather, the water table was far too low for just one rod - I had to use four of them, driven in on on top of the other with a really grown-up Kango hammer!
I can't see that you would need more than one rod, especially seeing how wet the weather has been of late, so may I suggest that you check with the company that I bought my rods from - advice will of course be free - and let's hope it will lead to a quick, simple (and cheap) fix!

I see this all the time on local authority /housing assoc  properties.  When work is carried out  it is never inspected properly & by the time the faults are noticed 

(like in your case Kate)  . . .the contractors  retention has been paid & they are well gone . Makes me angry 

As far as I am aware , or in my area anyway , a full electrical test is carried out by the council or housing association & certified   at every tennant change .

How come you got the house with this fault then ?

unfortunatly no longer with us kate. she had too many problems & passed on to a greener land.
