My Mrs has a '97 Volvo 940. It's been a great car, but now old.

Garage says that there is a small head gasket leak. He pressure tested it and found a small water leak to the outside of the engine block. He advised "taking it easy" and only use it for "poodling around". Water top up requirement not too bad. Really not worth repairing, well maybe if DIY but I don't, I have to pay a garage.

So, we are moving to Wales soon. A 250 mile drive. What do you recon ? Do it and stick to 50-60 with frequent stops ? Is there a risk of some big leak resulting in major breakdown ?

Wouldn't be the first time, but they'd want to know why it was a Volvo and not the usual Omega. My Miggy and the AA are old mates

What are you planning to do with your Volvo Rog?     If your going to scrap it or sell on cheap as a project then I'd consider throwing a bottle of K-Seal or maybe something like this 'Steel Seal Head Gasket Repair' in it.

I know it's going to be controversial and the purists will jump up and down, but with a leaking head gasket an old car like that is fairly worthless so I don't think you've much to lose and may even gain a few more miles/months. 

Worth thinking about anyway.    Now, where did I put that popcorn!!

sorry guys i disagree,providing its the 4 pot and not that horrible renault v6,these are dead easy engines to work on,get it done!!

I agree,the four pot is a very easy engine to work on and parts are cheap and plentifull
