Should F1 races be shorter?
« on: 06 April 2014, 19:30:38 »

Today's race saw a safety car 10 or so laps from the end. Obviously bunched the field up and we where in far a scrap to the end. Good stuff.

But I've thought the races are too long for a while. As the middle section of today's race was very precessional. Possibly might be a case for two races in the same amount of air time...?

Wsb races have two races a meeting. F1 might needs a bit of a re shuffle, but seems doable to me.

Would really make drivers go for it more, can't see it happening though.

The most boring race for ten years has just produced the best. So why change decades of race length. ???

Because.... Once the first few laps are out the way, the teams are just waiting to get through to the end. Conserving tyres, checking fuel etc.

It's not until the last 1/4 of the race do things tend to get going.

So, remove half the race length so they have to gor for it from start to finish. Then have two races, so they have to do it twice. Double the points per event. Double the fun for the paying public.

Not sure what you mean by the most boring race has produced the best. Btw

I believe the word that you are looking for is 'strategy' - just as much a part of the race as the first and final pushes, and often just as entertaining.

I reckon a quarter of a mile at Santa Pod would probably hold my  interest for the entire race. ::)

Ok, just as entertaining ::) seems most odd to me. But each to their own I guess.
