Hey all,

Who has a scanner and what part of the country is everybody (sorry if there is already a list in place).

I am in Watford, Herts, but am happy to travel around.

Basically my TD is not starting well in the mornings. It used to fire straight up but then all of a sudden it feels like it is about to start as normal but then the revs are very low (around 500rpm) and it won't rev and is smoking lots, then after a few seconds, maybe 5 it comes into life and is normal again.

I have cleaned the air mass sensor with carb cleaner and it went from dirty black to shiny metal on the tiny strip but it doesn't seem to have made a difference on the one start I have done since I did that.

Thanks

Alex

Either TheBoy in Brackley or myself in Alton have a Tech 2 and would be happy to help. TheBoy has considerably better knowledge of the TD, though. ;)

I know you've had yours for some time, so I'm probably stating the obvious. Have you checked the small pipe from underneath the centre of the air intake? Ensure it is not blocked or has any splits, it joins a gizmo near the power steering reservoir.
Have you given the injectors a good clean by treating them to a filter full of Diesel Magic?

Hi all,

Fuel and glow plugs are ok (pretty sure)vbut I will test the fuel bit when I have a chance.
I disconnected the little pipe under the intake manifold from the power steering end and blew done it. I heard a little gurgle like there were a few drops of oil maybe in there and then plugged it back in again.

That's interesting regarding the air mass sensor.

The car runs the same whether the sensor is connected or not. I.e it struggles to rev once started for a few seconds (struggling to keep alive at 500rpm and then after maybe 5-10 seconds it revs up as I've got the pedal down) and then once it does roar into life it runs the same as normal. I can unplug the air mass sensor and there doesn't seem to be any difference in the cars operation once running, seems to rev up normally. Is that normal? I will get it scanned for sure just thought I'd do what I can in the mean time.

I will contact the the guys to see when they might be around for me to drop in for the Tech2.

Thanks
