help thermostats not the right one

Hello everybody i'm currently doing my v6 thermostat replacement, not easy! Guides and advice on here is pspot on. Was quite pleased with myself with strip down,had a coffee , went to fit new stat and the two bolts bottom out . Checked old stat and part no. is 24420652 (mine is a 2002 v6) looked at new one and part no. is 90502201. What have GM given me , the guy seemed knowledgable, they're closed today so i've one got to hope my part is available and two i can remember where everything goes!!! Can someone help with correct part numbers please or explain why i've been sold wron stat    thank you

If you mean the bolts are too long for the new housing, then that's normal. The base of the new stat is much shallower than the old. I used a number of washers to pack mine out, though I think replacement bolts of an appropriate length are available.

Jonny your spot on the bolts are too long as replacement housing is thinner on bolt hole area, can i just cut torx bolts down? thanks for help :)

As you say, either cut the bolts down a little or put a couple of washers on each bolt.  :y  :y  :y

Thanks Andy i'm heading back to car now ,will cut bolts back a bit ,phew thought all was lost ,on a B/H as well, cheers Andy/ Jonny for quick replies this is really what makes this site so useful ,and great knowledge of members :y :y

It's no wonder the dealer parts network is going to shit... if they can't supply the correct parts, then people won't buy from them. Equally if we simply tolerate it, then the dealers won't improve because they either don't know that they've screwed up or aren't held to account for their mistakes. >:(

Take it back kicking and screaming imho...

Al that would have been spot on,cheaper even coming from the states!!! I've sucessfully fitted other one now but will have a pop at dealers , i think they basically just want to push out new motors, thanks for imput :y

Seems a bit excessive for a barely-existent problem that is eliminated with a couple of washers. Which is what the dealer technician would have done. And it's better than fitting one that needed slightly longer bolts. Finding that when it leaks.

Did manage to get over problem but as it's the first one i've done thought it was wrong part, happily OOFERS guided me on. Your right at least the bolts were long enough to cut ;D

Whilst I understand your point Nick, the less fuss made, the more likely they are to keep screwing up... 

How hard is it to type a reg/chassis number into the factory parts system and produce a part number that might actually bolt straight on >:( or is it just me...

The "b" bolt is a problem , released power steering reservoir to help me get in a little better to just about get a torx socket on,it was quite tight! I left the thermo in situ and got grips on the transfer pipe to get it moving, then undid thermo bolts, eventually it came apart(i can see why the guy in the video is so elated on the guide ;D)   As you all know putting the b bolt back is a challenge but it went back after a few attempts :y Al you were right a new transfer pipe was needed thanks. Jonny/andy cheers for saving the day, the true SPIRIT of OOF came good again ,terrific site :y
