Rear drum brakes
« on: 09 May 2014, 13:17:05 »

Why are some (most?) manufacturers putting drum brakes on the rear of their cars? I've noticed a polo, fiesta, focus, citroen and several others I can't recall to mind.
Are they cheaper to make and fit? Surely that can't be the only reason. Tight bastards have already taken away the spare wheel under the pretence of fuel efficiency/exhaust emissions.

Because on a lighter car they are actualy a more suited design being fully enclosed, cheaper and lower maintenance.

Yep.....and most of the puncture repair kits they put in place of the spare wheel are worse than useless. :'( :'(

Fortunately, the 'state of the art Omega' doesn't fall into that category. :)

I keen to use 'my feelers'  on the Omega. It's been a long time since I've played with a nice pair of points. :-* :-*
