Crankshaft pulley bolt worn problem
« on: 14 May 2014, 11:57:39 »

I am trying to undo the pulley bolt to renew the crankshaft oil seal, but it looks like someone has already had a go before me.

I cannot get a spanner or socket onto the 17mm bolt tight enough due to the head of the bolt being worn. The minute I put any pressure onto the spanner/socket it just slips right off.

Any ideas how to proceed?

Are you using a hex or bi-hex.

A good quality hex socket idealy with wall drive would be a good shout or try an impact socket.

What ever you do, dont set fire to it or get gas near it.

Hi Blaster. I'm using a Sealey wall drive hex socket. Don't know if you would class these as good? But it just won't grip tight enough.

In which case, can you try the next size down, 16mm.

If badly damaged then you may need to file some of the flats.

If you have a replacement bolt then you could grind the head off.

If I have to resort to grinding the head off, how much of the thread will be showing and how easy would it be to remove the rest of the bolt?

Thanks

Once ground off, the bolt should be pretty loose, most of the time you can wind them out with your fingers.

The length remaining will be the width of the sprocket (which can then be removed)

Right then, I have finally got the crankshaft pulley bolt off.  :y

Is there an easy way to get the new crankshaft oil seal over the shaft?

I have tried with plenty of oil and I can't get the seal over the shaft and I have tried for hours.

Any help please?

Thanks

Wet and dry over the lip of the journal the seal presses over, then clean thoroughly and liberally coat the journal and the seal lip with clean oil,
should be easier then

That number suggests oilpump to block seal
