Well thats XF's off the replacements list...
« on: 20 May 2014, 09:49:52 »

http://www.xfforum.co.uk/threads/5993-Is-it-expensive-to-run-a-Jaguar-XF

Most appear to agree on their own forum, that it's expensive compared other makes and high dealer costs.  :'(

Short service intervals and high use of friction parts, booooo!  :(

Use of friction parts is more dependant upon how you drive than the car they're fitted to.

A colleague here has an XF (the 3.0 diesel, I think) - very nice car and quick for what it is..

I just asked - he's done about 45k and had two sets of Pirelli Zero lasting ~12k each, a set of Dunlop for ~20k and now Avons.  To me that sounds reasonable for a big, heavy, powerful car driven by someone who doesn't spare the horses..
He's had a set of front pads in that time and nothing else; fixed price service for that is £129 at the main dealer.

Ok, that's put it back on  :D

£129 fixed service? Much better

I was surprised reading that, as it was on a XF forum. I guess they all drive like a certain cubby admin  :-X

The £129 is just a front pad change inc. parts, rather than a service.. if you see what I mean.

Full fixed price servicing menu here: http://www.jaguar.co.uk/quality-section/owners/fixed-price-servicing.html (for cars over three years old only, but a reasonable guide to newer prices from what he's said - his has only recently hit 3+)

I'd definitely consider the Sportbrake if boot size wasn't an issue; though at the moment my favourite for replacement would definitely be an E-class estate, having had a good poke around Al's.

Generally speaking I know he's been very happy with his XF - fast, economical, reliable and eats miles with ease.. He fairly regularly uses it to 'nip' over to France or Germany for concerts, booze cruises, holidays etc with his wife and (adult) daughter.

And now, after me asking him about it, he's sending me links of cars I should really buy.. ;D

I've only sat in one once, but straight away felt comfy. Liked what I saw/felt, very nice cabin.

510? That the XFR Supercharged V8?

Seen a few of those about, sadly I doubt I could run the fuel costs for that.  :(

I'd be quite happy with the later 3.0d XF  :)

I'd be quite happy with a late VNL780 fitted with the 750bhp lump in from the FH16...

not very good, on,the ice roads or out back, also no good over here as you can use a std 45ft trailer, and they just to long nose at T junction.

If I had one here it would be a toy rather than working, plenty worse trucks to spend the working week in though... :y
