Try fiting a Sahlbus oil drain valve afterwards, M14 x 1.5 is the thread size. Mine cost 37 quid delivered. Makes oil changes a lot easier

Check how low they hang, as mustn't be lower than the ribs/web of the sump each side of the drain plug...

...if it is lower, the landing after an 80mph launch does result in a catastrophic oil leak...

I never did find the drain plug/tap following this incident, but the helicoil it was screwed into survived without any damage. Threw in a spark plug, popped in some oil, drove home (slowly!), went back to a traditional drain plug.

Helicoil sump plug is the way forward on these engines :y
Maybe Marks DTM can remember how long the easy drain/tap thingie lasted. I don't think I managed a week with it  :'(

I took one off the steel sump on a Mk1 Consul in a rally. Managed to stop in time, and limped home with a temporary wooden bung. Took the sump off and straightened the boss, and it was as good as new. ::)
