Hi all

Yesterday I drove to Scotland from Bournemouth with the family I devoloped an annoying fault.
When braking at speed I can hear a grunching from the left and the car pulls to the left.

I had the front disks and pads changed. Also had it tracked last week so that's all good. Plus all new and even tyres.

Hope someone can help with an idea of what it could be, as will do some emergency repairs before I travel back on Thursday.

Don't think its brakes, as a loss of braking force on the left, would make it pull right.

Thinking steering idler or wishbones bushes tbh.

Nearside rear pads or nearside front wishbone bush.

If car is otherwise stable during cornering/general driving then unlikely to be suspension related. Any tyre wear?

Assuming the caliper isn't 'dangle berries'ed, I'd be looking at wishbone bushes or steering components. I'd be checking suspension first if its only under braking.

It handles fine during cornering and perfectly straight even when at high speed.

It doesn't always do it at low speeds but some times still dives to the left. When braking from 40 and above I hear a grunching and the car will pull but steering wheel stays level tho I can feel a wobble from the steering wheel.

When I had it tracked it was badly out. I think the previous owner changed the track arms but never had it tracked. The inside edges of the tyres were badly worn showing wires but out side edges had 3mm tread. New tyres show no uneven wear but only done 1000 miles on them so prob to early to tell.

If the geometry is out, then trust me, 1000 miles is plenty to destroy a tyre

If wheel doesn't move, then that suggests it's not a front suspension issue, as when the bushes fail, it can be a real fight braking at speed.

My money is on the brakes, graunching/grinding suggests either sticking pads/caliper or knackered rear pads/discs (given the fronts have just been changed)

Are the calipers bolted up correctly?

If you're getting inside shoulder wear, that's camber, as the factory spec for camber is poorly specified, and unsuitable for older cars. Tracking is generally a waste of money on Omegas, a full geometry check is required, by somebody who knows what they are doing (ie, doesn't just set it to factory spec)

Yep, on way back from Scotland get booked into Nigel Lang's.  My Omega is transformed having its full Geometry setup and 4 new boots

Thanks for all the help. Only just had a chance to reply with my hectic life lol

I got a mate to look at it in Scotland and it was the wish bones, ball joints had gone. Got both replaced for £160 120 on parts 40 to do it and now driving beautiful. 😃😃😃

Had full geometry done last month and they said it was well out but he set it up to what his computer said. Should I seek someone else that knows there stuff? Anyone know of somebody in the south that's good?
