mid change wiring
« on: 29 May 2014, 21:00:56 »

Hi all,

I am going to replace my broken mid with 2 plugs for a later single plug one. Can anyone confirm the book of lies is correct with regard the wiring, I was kindly given a reference to which wires go where, but pins 12 and 26 on the grey single plug are back to front. I have pin 12 ās Blue/red stripe going to abs speed signal. Is this correct?
Also when joining the 2 looms as it is twisted wire core, is it best to put some solder on the 2 ends before joining them.

TIA

I have no reason to disbelieve the Book of Boolax...

...though given you proximity to Kevin Wood, might be worth meeting up with him for a look through the official GM wiring diagram (though this only covers the later MID).

Hi all, I have spent this afternoon changing my MID for the later single plug one, all seems fine apart from;

I get the warning for the headlight low field, my car isn't fitted with those lights. What do I do with the wire as I can't connect it to the headlight control, does it need to be grounded or is the display programmable with tech 2 to remove the warning?

I also an now getting a low coolant warning which I didn't have a week ago when I took the old display out (car was run for a week with no display). There is a constant earth on the pin at the display and the warning still shows if you disconnect the level sensor. Is this a problem with the new display or is it more likely my level sensor has failed in the last week while I wasn't looking?

Many thanks

Right, have sorted the coolant warning, it goes to pin ( continental number) 20, not 28 as it appears to be on the guide I had.

So my only question now is how to get rid of the headlight low field warning as my car doesn't have xenon's. Doors the wire need to be grounded out or is it programmable with tech 2 or do I need to live with it. I thought the later MIDS were the same but I don't want to go putting a pin to ground without knowing what is supposed to be there.

Cheers

According to my diagram, the error signal from the headlamp levelling is on pin 29 of the later MIDs, so try pulling that to ground and see what happens.

It can be programmed by tech 2 if we can work out what code index it needs. Probably easier to just ground the wire if it works. :y

Cheers Kevin, I know it is pin 29 but I want sure if grounding it out would cause problems with the mid. I will give it a try and report back tomorrow.
