Trusty Alternative Gasket Providers
« on: 31 May 2014, 12:27:57 »

Hi everyone  :y
If I may ask...
Does anyone know or has anyone used another reputable or trusty company other than Vauxhall/Opel to buy replacement gaskets?
I'm in the process of investigating why my Mig is hesitating on acceleration. Changed the plugs, still hesitating and they were oily so looks like I need to change the Cam gaskets. Cleaning the injectors and changing the fuel filter today.

Question:
What things to check when you have hesitant acceleration?
Plugs, HT leads, Injectors, gaskets (which ones?) Clean intake, .....Anything else?
Would a coolant flush help?

Thanks in advance if you answer
Cheers

Hi

When you say the plugs were oily were they:

black/ Oily on the electrode- the bit inside the engine or
sitting in a pool of oil outside of the engine as you undid them. If the latter then cam cover gaskets and only use Opel - At a guess about £60 maybe 75 euros here.  maintenance guide here http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=90542.0

HT leads do fail. If you have a look under the bonnet in the dark (with your tie neatly tucked away) with engine running you shouldn't be able to see any blue sparks arcing from the plug leads as you rev the engine up. If you do then it may well be your plug leads. If you do change HT leads the other end(i.e. not the spark plugs) is tucked down the back of the engine. Have a good feel first and familiarise yourself with the layout in your mind before removing the leads. Have a look at a picture of the DIS pack in the maintenance guides to see what you are connecting up to.

I have a bag of HT leads some of which might be faulty. If you see one arcing I might have one I could post you to avoid buying a full set.

A coolant flush wouldn't help but make sure you are using proper antifreeze and not water or antifreeze and topped up with water. These engines do not like plain water!

Is the hesitation at 50 mph when you put your foot down?

One final thought is it might be an air vacuum fault. Under the bonnet you will see a network of black plastic tubing about 1/8th inch diameter linking various parts of the engine and controls. A leak or a detached pipe can cause trouble. carefully check all the joints. A rubber bend on one of my cars had a crack in it. The black pipe itself is robust enough unless it has been chafing on something.

Thanks for the reply Varche  :y
Ton of appreciation
The plugs were sitting in a small amount of oil but they were covered top to toe with the stuff too.

I took her this morning to have the injectors cleaned at a "Norauto" (I'm sure you know them) and they (Very nice chap called Omar) said that it wasn't worth cleaning them because they were ok and he thinks that one of the cylinders may have gone or something in that sense as he said it's not ticking over and the engine is moving a lot more than it should on idle and when revved. If you hold the gear stick on idle it is a lot! ??? This is true actually because when I noticed the other day that when I accelerate after getting past the initial hesitant part,(Which is in 2nd and yup mostly around 50mph) I feel the car vibrate sometimes like the exhaust manifold is shaking right under my as* at about 65-80mph. It's not a violent shake but more like a rubbery one if you get what I mean :D

I'll check the HT leads and pipes tomorrow. I'm dying to clean those air intakes but I just don't have the time at the mo (even though it's on the list to be done very very soon) but I think its in the engine somewhere.
I'm going to leave it at the mechanics for a day this coming while they sus out what the problem is.
Just hope it's not the cylinders or one of them as Omar mentioned. What would that mean? Big job?

Cheers
