Vauxhall Astra
« on: 16 June 2008, 11:18:10 »

Hi All
My wife's volvo is up for sale and we are considering an Astra to replace it.
I no it is front wheel drive and all that, but has anyone on here got one ? are they any good ? anything to watch out for ?

It will be the latest shape one we are looking at, not new, but up to 3 years old ish.

I am definatly keeping the Omega for my self.

Thanks

Mike

New astras are nice cars..But stay away from easytronic..

May sound funny , the new corsa also is really "roomy" inside..

I drive a new one (to fetch somewhere for a friend) ..1.4 Comfy and not that slow..

Fine cars, no real problems and pretty well screwed together.

The only thing I would say is avoid the models with 4 wheel studs (early production) because they were not made for long and things like brake discs are not on trade club and cost a bomb!. No trouble with the 5 stud versions

There's one of these in my local dealers. It looks quite good ....... for a white car.

just looking at the options list. £200 for cruise control, that's a bloody expensive stalk, brake & clutch switch & a session with TechII! >:(

Astra-H have interior build quality issues imho, seen a few now with trim bits missing, broken, or badly worn.

Nice car to drive, driven a few, including one up from Dijon to Calais in a bloody hurry (when the MV6's crank sensor went), and not too many aches afterwards.

One of my brothers has just got one (he only buys Astras), he also thinks its great, but then he is comparing to Astra-G (aka, the Focus syndrome).

If I was in the market for small family car, Astra-H would be on the list.

Its a pretty industry standard cost for this option....ie, its also 200 quid on a Focus.....god knows what it is on a VW  (there site is not very quick, as bloody usual!)

Similar to the extra costs on many manufacturers who have indentical engines producing diffferent power - its just an ECU map, but there is a huge difference in price. I know Audi do this on diesels, but I'm sure everyone else does as well...

Thanks for all the info everyone, I should have added it will be an auto and not easytronic, def not manual.

Looking aroud it would appear the Design and Elite models seam to have a few toys and look nicer inside.

Thanks again.

I had one of the new ones not long ago for work (1.6 sxi estate) the car itself was a nice drive responded well etc.
only thing i did notice was that it ate fuel.
I did a run to Liverpool from Swansea and was just floating above the red on the petrol from a full tank.
same on the reverse journey and I wasn't gunning it or stuck in traffic. (although there was 2 of us in the car)
I did a similar run in my miggy to visit a friend and had plenty of go juice left over.

Do be aware that the Omega tank holds more than 60% more than an Astra one  :y
